The State of Washington, Department of Labor and Industry, has completed its technical and administrative reviews of the 2020 National Electrical Code. This newest edition of the NEC was adopted with minimal amendments and will become effective on November 1, 2020.
The final public hearing for the 2020 NEC adoption was held virtually on April 9, 2020. Thus, the adoption of the code was not postponed because of Covid-19 restrictions. The effective date was scheduled to be July 1, 2020. However, the Governor extended the effective date for all new rulemaking by four months. The effective date for the 2020 NEC will now be November 1, 2020.
The Washington electrical rules are found in the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 296-46B. The final rules which include the 2020 NEC adoption are not yet posted, however, an accurate second draft can be found on the Labor and Industry website.
